GCE Blue Maritime Cluster, Norsk Katapult Digital, SINTEF Nordvest, DNV, and Kongsberg Maritime are repeating last year’s success and would like to invite you to the 2025 Open Simulation Platform (OSP) Conference!
This year’s conference will be 12thand 13th of November at Norwegian Maritime Competence Center (NMCC) in Ålesund.
This year, in addition to the conference day (12th), we extend the conference with a “workshop day”(13th), for those who want to learn more about OSP and to discuss in detail new projects and the further development of OSP.

DAY 1: CONFERENCE
The first day sets the stage with updates on key maritime projects, showcasing progress from industry leaders and research partners. We will look into how simulation is driving innovation in ship design, operations, and safety – and explore lessons learned from other industries such as automotive and energy.
Session 1: Industry experiences
09:00:
- Registration and Coffee
09:30:
- SINTEF Nordvest & GCE Blue Maritime Cluster – Welcome and Introduction to OSP
- Vard / SINTEF| Armin Pobitzer (Vard) and Jon Schonhovd Dæhlen (SINTEF) The next steps of SeaZero Project
- Damen Shipyards | Huub van den Broek | Simulate to integrate: Shaping the future of integration in ship building
- SINTEF Ocean / Equinor | Pål Levold (SINTEF) and Gunnar Gjengedal Hole (Equinor) | Development of a Stability and Ballast Training Simulator for Semi-Submersible Platforms Based on Co-Simulation
- Airbus | Christophe Ducamp | Airbus: Airbus strategies for successful SE/MBSE implementation across the extended enterprise (Digital)
- Airbus | Tahina Bezanahary | FMI standard at Airbus – Use Cases to support System Design, Verification and Validation and Reuse, success story and challenges (Digital)
- Dassault Systèmes | Wouter van der Velden | Seamless Digital Integration: 3DEXPERIENCE Platform Openness for Marine and Offshore Engineering
- Norwegian Coastal Administration | Kurt Haukeberg | Using Simulators for Training and Decision Support
12.00 – Lunch
13:00:
- The OSP Panel debate (Hosted by: Severin Sadjina – SINTEF Nordvest). How do we increase the use of simulation technology? This year, we will answer YOUR questions! We first briefly revisit pain points identified during last year’s workshop, introduce the panelists, and then open up for the audience.
Session 2: Abstracts
14:00:
- Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Berlin | Amer Haidar | Numerical Co-Simulation Using FMI Standard to Enhance Efficiency in Marine Hybrid Propulsion and Onboard Electric Networks
- Åbo Akademi University | Hergys Rexha | Transforming PLC Control Logic into FMUs Using OpenPLC: An Open Source Approach
- Aalto University | Haitham Al-Shami, Riku Ala-Laurinaho, Raine Viitala | A Collaborative Platform for Formalizing Requirements Exchange in Maritime Systems Using Temporal Logic
- DNV | Melih Akdag | SeaZero – Simulation-based testing of an autodocking system with multiobjective optimization and design of experiments
- Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) | Lars Ivar Hatledal | FMU4cpp: A C++ Framework for Creating FMI-Compliant Functional Mock-up Units
16:00 – Blue Maritime Hangout with finger-food in Blue Innovation Arena
DAY 2: WORKSHOPS
On the second day, we turn from presentations to hands-on collaboration. Through group work and discussions, participants will identify needs, barriers, and opportunities for wider use of co-simulations in the maritime sector and beyond. The aim is to shape ideas for future research and innovation projects, and to outline potential collaborative initiatives.
08:30
- Introduction: Introduction and highlights from the 2024 workshop
09:00
- Group Work 1: What do people need in order to use co-simulations more?
10:00
- Group Work 2: Future Research and Innovation Projects. Bring your ideas and let’s brainstorm (some potential topics: discrete co-simulations, interoperability of different simulation tools, AI and co-simulation)
11:30
- Presentations of One-Pagers
12:30 – Closing remarks and lunch
Poster Presentations:
As previous years, there will be poster presentations at the Blue Maritime Hangout. Let us know if you would like to present your project. MAROFF projects will be presented.
Price:
Our target is to keep the conference free and open to as many as possible. There are various ways to contribute through sponsorship. If you’re considering it, please feel free to reach out.
We promise two days full of engaging discussions and insightful learnings.
